Parents Guide
Sex Mild
A man briefly pulls down his trousers and smacks his butt while mocking Captain America. The caption is cut before his pants go down very far.
Captain America is kissed by a woman (she pulls him in).
There is some flirting and brief kissing. Some romantic tension between two of the main characters. But no nudity.
Showgirls in slightly scanty outfits dance at military tour events. Mild cleavage and knickers briefly shown while dancing.
A private flirts with Steve and she moves closer and closer and then she grabs his tie and pulls him in and kisses him. This makes Peggy really jealous.
A soldier says some mildly lewd things to a female officer. Not overly crude but with sexual innuendo. She punches him in the face.
A shirtless man undergoes an experiment that gives him bulging muscles which are then groped by a female without obvious consent from the shirtless man.
A group of men are shown in boxer shorts while lined up to receive physical examinations to join the military.
An ongoing joke involves a character mistakingly thinking that the French word fondu carries a sexual connotation.
Some sexually suggestive dialog.
Violence Moderate
Because he is a soldier, Captain America doesn't hesitate to kill the enemies. However this movie is set in World War II so this is expected.
The Red Skull rips his mask off revealing his skinless, earless face. This could be disturbing to younger viewers.
A man is shot and you see a splurt of blood.
Captain America is on top of an escape pod and is fighting a HYDRA goon and kicks him into the propeller. There is a small amount of blood spray.
A spy bites into a cyanide pill and dies, foaming at the mouth.
There are lengthy fight sequences featuring kicks and punches with sound effects of crunching bones as well as scenes of gunfire in which people are killed. But the movie is mostly without excessive bloodshed.
Captain America throws several men out of a plane. They clearly do not have parachutes and fall out of view to the apparent deaths.
Several characters are shot, some with a high powered energy weapon that vaporizes them. One man bites a cyanide pill, and is seen foaming at the mouth before he dies. A brief shot of someone's neck being snapped. People thrown from great heights.
A man flies into a plane propeller, and is cut up. A fair amount of blood.
PG-13 Violence Type: Blood, Brutal And Graphic.
Profanity Mild
Hell is used at least 12 times throughout the movie.
Captain America says "Who the hell are you" twice.
One muffled use of "s**t".
Senator says "Jesus. Give that kid a sandwich"
"Son of a b**ch" is said in an admiring way.
Ass is said once.
"God" is used as an exclamation three times.
Not gratuitous cursing and probably less than average for an action movie.
There are a few uses of d**n.
9 uses of hell, 2 uses of d**n, 1 use of ass, 1 use of b**ch.
Drugs Mild
A man is shown smoking a cigar.
Beer and liquor drinking in a bar.
Scientist has a drink with Steve the night before the experiment.
People drinking in a bar.
A man complains that because of a medical treatment he can no longer become drunk.
Frightening Scenes Mild
The Red Skull's appearance is a skeletal red face. He looks like his skull is covered only by muscle, completely missing skin, and might be scary for kids.
Near the end of the movie, Steve makes the difficult decision to crash-land the Red Skull's plane when he cannot find any other way of keeping it from automatically firing its weapons and destroying the entire East Coast. As he goes down, he is talking on the radio to his love, Peggy. She is seen crying after the transmission cuts out. Extremely emotionally tense.
During a mission on a train, a misfire causes Bucky to be thrown out the side and is seen clinging on for dear life. Steve reached out to grab him but the metal brakes and Bucky screams as he falls to his presumed death.
There is moderate threat, including a scene in which a man is tied to a laboratory table and forced to undergo experimentation on his body. There is a brief scene of horror when a man peels back his human face mask to reveal a reddened skull underneath
At the end of the movie, it is revealed steve has been asleep for almost 70 years, this can be upsetting to audiences because that means that probably all of Steve's friends and allies are dead and he says, "I had a date", presuming Peggy's death which can be upsetting as well.
The movie takes place in the the 1940's, and show nazi symbols and other stuff that might offend certain people.
Red skull's appearance is what you think his face is but is human except his skull eyes have eyes in them.
Typical war movie action sequences. However it's not as grisly as most war movies. No open wounds, no body parts or people choking on blood. This movie is not gritty or visceral in its portrayal of violence.
At one point, Steve in an enclosed chamber undergoing an experimental treatment with intense radiological exposure. Steve screams in pain, but immediately insists he can take the treatment and demands that the experiment continue. There is considerable sparking of electrical equipment and Steve is silent at the end, but he is revealed to be fine with the body enhancement treatment a complete success.
A short shot of a man being thrown into a propeller and blood splattering. It's almost too fast of a scene to be gross.
