Cohabitation Normalized Over Marriage
Tony and Pepper live together unmarried, and their relationship is presented as unremarkable rather than moving toward marriage. The film normalizes a rejection of traditional marriage.
Spoiler Reveals a plot point
Pepper Cast as Action Fighter
Pepper kills a bad guy in close-quarters combat, fighting a man with punches and throws, shooting at him, and glowing red-hot. The scene casts a woman in the traditionally male action-fighter role.
Christian Gesture as Punchline
Tony makes a hurried sign of the cross, then tells Jarvis, “It’s Christmas. Take ’em to church.” The sequence treats Christian imagery as a throwaway joke, giving the scene a dismissive edge toward faith.

Parents Guide
Sex Mild
Women are seen wearing lingerie and bikinis at times.
Pepper says "I'll have a shower and you're joining me". Consensual innuendo with 2 people in a committed relationship.
There is a kissing scene in about the first 4 minutes.
Some inuendos.
At The Start of Movie, It is Implied that Tony Stark(Robert Downey Jr.) and Maya Hansen(Rebecca Hall) had sex.
Maya Hansen(Rebecca Hall) is Sitting on a chair wearing a Bra and Underwear. We see from behind her.
At a Beauty Pageant Event, Woman are standing in White Bikini's.
Violence Moderate
A terrorist executes a hostage on live TV (very intense). Later we learn this was just acting and in the end credits we see the man get up after the "shoot"
The Airforce Airliner gets part of it blown up and thirteen passengers falls out of the airplane and goes skydiving. Tony Stark quickly has to make a decision by choosing to rescue them by getting thirteen of them to hold hands and quickly pulls all thirteen people before dropping them safely into the ocean but he gets hit by a big truck and survives but his suit is damaged beyond repair.
The villain snaps a waiter's neck before he holds Pepper hostage. There is no sound, but it is still intense for younger viewers.
Incredibly dark, among the most violent PG-13 superhero movies.
The first act of terrorism we witness takes place in Hollywood's Chinese Theatre, filled with innocent tourists who are (mostly) utterly vaporized. (We see Happy lying on the ground, his face slightly injured).
A body hangs lifelessly from telephone wires. A person has an arm sliced off (no blood). An attacker is briefly choked with a pair of handcuffs.
Tony spends the majority of the movie wearing blood on his face. He painfully injects sensors into his arms. He crashes in his suit. His suit crashes into him. Pepper is manhandled, nearly strangled and, in a way, tortured.
Profanity Mild
b**ch, crap, d**k, and pussy are used.
Use name of Jesus.
godd**n.
Drugs Mild
Alcohol use. A fictional drug called "Extremis" is used to augment powers.
Frightening Scenes Moderate
Tony Stark is shown to suffer from severe PTSD, as he's seen experiencing panic attacks related to the battle of New York in "The Avengers" as well as insomnia and nightmares related to this. The depiction of this is extremely realistic and very accurate, and might be really intense for some, especially those who actually suffer from PTSD.
Pepper falls from a very high height. She's thought to be dead until she's revealed to have the powers from the Extremis
The Malibu Mansion Attack Is Extremely Intense.
During the Malibu mansion attack, Killian's helicopters destroy the mansion; there is rubble and dust and blood and Tony is knocked unconscious within his Mark XLII suit. It is a very intense scene.
The final battle with Killian is very intense. Tony and Rhodey fight alongside the Iron Legion, and Pepper is presumed dead after falling into the fiery ruins. However, she survives and kills Killian with an Iron Man gauntlet.
This movie is the darkest one out of the Iron Man trilogy.
Much darker and poignant than the previous two films.
This film features content that is similar to the U. S. war on terror. Stark's mansion is destroyed in an intense action scene. The terrorist attacks are intense. The mandarin is terrifying. The extremis soldiers could be scary for some younger viewers. Aldrich Killian is an intimidating villain, and later gets a scary appearance after Tony tries to kill him. Much darker than the previous films in the Iron Man trilogy.
After saving people from falling Tony appears to be hit by a truck as his suit is in pieces and rolls onto the road, however it's revealed a few seconds later that he wasn't actually inside of the suit at all.
Many characters are shown screaming, being ripped apart, behaving extremely aggressively (though they are somewhat dehumanized), terrorism is featured, and action movie violence is found throughout.
