What earned the score

  • Helen of Troy Race-Swapped Casting

The film casts Lupita Nyong'o, a Black actress, as Helen of Troy, a figure traditionally depicted in Greek mythology as a fair-skinned Greek beauty, in a choice criticized as prioritizing modern diversity representation over mythological fidelity.

  • Greek Soldier Sinon Played by Trans Actor

Elliot Page, a transgender actor, is cast as Sinon, a Greek soldier, a decision that injects contemporary identity politics into the ancient mythological setting.

  • Athena and Ensemble Diversity Mandates

Zendaya is cast as Athena alongside other non-traditional ethnic casting choices, which critics argue are forced to satisfy current Hollywood diversity quotas and progressive inclusion standards rather than reflect Greek heritage.

Parents Guide

  • Sex Mild

A man's buttocks are briefly visible after he falls when hit by an arrow.

A husband and wife embrace under covers and kiss. Their shoulders are bare, implying they are nude.

A side view of a soldier's buttocks is briefly visible.

  • Violence Severe

Soldiers stab/slash the throats of opposing soldiers, women, and townspeople; screaming, terrified women are roughly handled (implying sexual violence, though nothing is shown at all).

A man is bitten in half by a cyclops. Blood and intestines are briefly visible as the body hits the ground. At least one more man is eaten the same way in the whole sequence. The cyclops also steps on a few man as they try to escape. Most of the gore is obscured by shadows and darkness, making the scene moderately graphic rather than explicit.

A man is shown having a blade stabbed in his head, moderately bloody.

A puppy is casually thrown to its death.

Soldiers ransack the city of Troy, set buildings on fire and attack their inhabitants.

Fight scenes and battles include the use of bows and arrows, stabbings and impalings from bladed weapons, accompanied by minor blood spurts.

Six men on a boat are individually snatched by a 6-headed monster with long necks and sharp teeth. No blood, although the scene is frightening.

Two sheep are sacrificed at twilight, with their blood collected in a bowl. The sacrifice itself is shown from a long distance, so you see no detail. The blood pooling in the bowl is shown as black because of the darkness of the scene.

A woman stabs a man in bed. You don't see the impact, but you see blood splatter on her torso.

A few soldiers drown while being trapped in the Trojan horse submerged in the tide. There are a few shots of them struggling, and the drowning soldiers audibly gurgle as they die.

  • Profanity Mild

f**k and b**tard are used sparingly alongside lesser profanity.

  • Drugs Mild

    Alcohol and narcotics use.

  • Frightening Scenes Severe

The peril when sailing on rough seas may upset sensitive viewers.

Men are transformed into pigs through a painful process that's fully depicted onscreen which may upset sensitive viewers.

The giant cyclops roaring may upset sensitive viewers.

Great movie. Elliot Page who is known for “invading men’s spaces”such as men’s fitness magazines and other things, has a role in this movie, although it’s never mentioned that he’s trans. Some unnecessary race swaps were done, but it also doesn’t mess up the story in the end.
