Angel and the Badman (2026)

What earned the score

• Hispanic Identity as Broad-Cut Casting

The remake makes gang member Hondo Hispanic and gives him Spanish dialogue and broadly played accents. The conspicuous ethnic recasting leans on a crude caricature rather than subtle characterization.

• Spoiler Reveals a plot point Show Hide

Feminist Reversal of the Western Fighter Role

When Laredo takes Penny upstairs, she strikes and wounds him with a heavy metal object, taking the decisive physical action in the confrontation. The climax casts a woman as the active fighter, injecting a feminist reversal into the western’s conventional gender roles.
