The show devotes an episode to the love story between Bill and Frank, presenting a romance between two men as one of its standout storylines.

Other LGBT characters also make notable appearances, extending the series’ identity representation beyond Ellie.

  • Spoiler Reveals a plot point

    Lesbian Romance Onscreen

Ellie is established as a lesbian, and the series depicts her relationships, including a passionate kiss with Dina, her female lover. The romance makes lesbian representation an explicit part of Ellie’s character arc.

  • Woman Leads Resistance Group

Kathleen leads the Kansas City Fireflies resistance movement, placing a woman at the head of a militant organization.

  • Girl as Combatant

Ellie stabs a man and fights to defend herself, and later spars with a man. The series places a girl and young woman in the combatant role.
