Same-Sex Flirtation as Gag
The series includes homosexual sexual content, and one episode has a male doctor jokingly tell another male doctor to kiss him and “get a room” after noticing him staring at his mouth. The exchange brings same-sex flirtation into the show as a comic aside.
Women Take the Combat Roles
Maggie fights the Reapers, Michonne leads a community whose women train in military-like formations, and Judith joins those formations to kill walkers. The show places women and girls in the fighter and protector roles.

Parents Guide
Sex Mild
Shane and Lori have sex. You do not see the sex scene, but her removing his shirt and then it cuts.
In Season 3, after just having offscreen sex with the Governor, Andrea gets up to grab a knife. She is naked, but her body is shadowed by the darkness and nothing is seen at all.
In Season 7, Daryl is captured by Negan and held naked in a cell, but only his profile is shown.
In Season 5, Abraham and Rosita make out in an abandoned library as Eugene watches them from the distance. The act is shown, but it is slightly shadowed. However, they are clearly heard but no nudity shown.
In Season 6, a character takes a shower, and their buttocks are shown, but that's it. No graphic nudity, but most of the nudity that's ever shown is shirtless men, or the back of a woman.
In Season 3, there is a brief sex scene between Maggie and Glenn. It goes on for a 10 seconds. No nudity is shown, but some kissing.
In most episodes, sex and nudity is mild and it is never that explicit. Also, there are some brief sex scenes but they never include any nudity, they are mostly just makeout scenes. The nudity, however, is always the buttocks if anything and is very rare, but only in a few episodes.
In Season 10, two characters have sex. The woman has the man follow her orders, threatening to kill him if he doesn't. She suddenly makes him remove his clothes and when he turns around, she herself has undressed. At this point, they are only shown from the shoulders up, and kissing is then seen followed by a zoomed out side shot of their unclothed bodies embracing.
In Season 10, a female character gets raped by a group of men offscreen.
Season 3 overall has the most sex and nudity, but even then it's very mild and nothing explicit is actually shown on screen.
Violence Severe
In Season 7, two main characters are tortured with a taser but the scene is not graphic and it doesn't last long enough to be that intense.
Visual of a decomposing body, but brief.
The death of a (zombie) child.
A dead animal is seen being eaten by crows.
A man starts a gunfight with the cops, shoots one of the police (in the stomach), and the criminal ends up dying from bullet wounds. Little blood is seen in this scene.
In a brief scene, you see a zombie with a piece of meat in his mouth. Blood is seen dripping from his mouth.
In some episodes, you briefly see body parts lying around. This ranges from not very graphic to very gory such as a length scene showing a pile of half eaten people including children. Another bloody scene shows a pile of gore, and a starving man begins to eat this because of his hunger. He then discovers near by the body of a ripped child and makes the realization that he ate the remains of a kid.
Rick bites into a man's neck and tears a chunk of flesh and muscle off. The man he has bitten is seen with blood spurting out of his neck. Very graphic, disturbing, and unexpected
Bloodily violent and graphic. A scene shows a man getting his head smashed with a barbed wired baseball bat and his eye is seen. He then gets his whole head smashed and a bog pile of brains is shown. This scene is very emotional and probably the most violent in the entire series.
In the fifth season, there is an animal style execution scene in which the protagonists are forced to their knees and most get their throats slit. The scene is very explicit, bloody and terrifying.
Profanity Moderate
In a change for the show, during the final 8 episodes of Season 11, the f-word is said about once in an episode before that it had been used once is Season 4 (DVD only), once in Season 5 (DVD only), used many times by Negan in the Season 6 finale (DVD only), and once in Season 9 (DVD only).
Merle Dixon, is seen to be a racist and makes several offensive remarks, including the infamous "n-word."
The f-bomb is used multiple times in season 11.
The Word Ni**er is used infrequently in earlier seasons.
"Ni**er" is said a few times in early season 1.
There is more profanity as the show goes on. Never any F-bombs except for streaming service and dvd versions.
Profanity is used sparingly, with the word "s**t" being the strongest said a few times every episode. Words like "b**ch," "a**hole," "d**k," "pr*ck," "pussy," and "jerk-off" are infrequently used. Other than that, the only regular profanity is quite mild (Such as "ass," "hell," "p**s," and "d**n" respectively).
The middle finger is seen on a few occasions.
Drugs Mild
Their is a brief scene in season one in which we see a bag full of pills containing a large amount of blue crystal methamphetamine.
In season 10, a character is addicted to caffine pills. Hallucinations occur and methamphetamine is mentioned in the same episode. In the second episode Dixon has cocaine(crack/coke). It is commented on briefly.
In season 10, two characters drink an entire bottle of whiskey and get increasingly drunk and their decisions get increasingly worse.
Huv Tonino.
In season 4 there is an episode where two characters spend an entire episode finding Moonshine, and later in the episode they get very drunk.
Alcohol is consumed in some episodes.
Some characters smoke cigarettes.
References to hard drugs are made rarely and are not depicted in use.
Bob was an alcoholic.
Frightening Scenes Severe
Children and animals are sometimes seen getting abducted and dying. This can be emotionally intense.
Season 11 is by far the scariest season.
In season 9, Rick sacrifices himself to blow up the bridge to stop the zombies from reaching the Survivors by crossing it. We then see Daryl break down in tears as another Survivor watches on devastated as well and walks away, all while we hear sad music. This scene is quite sad and powerful.
A character wears the face of a zombie as she cuts another woman's head completely off with a string of piano wire and then proceeds to hand the head to the victim's boyfriend. Then, she proceeds to stab her boyfriend multiple times in the stomach.
In season 9, well-known characters are lured away and decapitated offscreen. We see some of their final moments. We see their decapitated heads put on spikes that stick out of the ground. Possibly one of the most disturbing scenes in the series.
In season 10, two characters are held at gunpoint and forced to play russian roulette.
In season 10, one whole episode is centered around characters stuck in a dark cave filled with zombies. This will likely induce anxiety to claustrophobic viewers.
In season 10, a character suffers from PTSD and tries to drown himself.
In season 10, a man is shown to have forced his brother and his family to play russian roulette. The family's decayed corpses are seen. The man's brother is then seen to shoot himself in the head.
In season 10, an antagonist sneaks into one of the main communities through the drainage system and kills countless members of the community in the cover of night. Extremely graphic blood and screams. In the same episode a man fights the antagonist in an extremely violent and gory fight. Some parts of the fight are from the point of view or the protoganist.
