Parents Guide

  • Sex None

Marty mistakes a rectal thermometer, a birthday gift from Melman, for a regular one; Marty spits it out after realizing its purpose.

Alex holds up underwear themed around him to sell to people at the zoo.

Melman mentions that he has a bladder infection and has to get up every two hours to urinate.

Marty says "this looks like a puffy party" when he sees all the animals partying in the jungle but now this quote can have a double meaning referring to the parties P Diddy hosted which weren't so good.

Gloria comes out of the ocean with star fish on her chest and a crab strategically placed over her crotch, strikes a pose, and tells the sea creatures, "Alrighty boys, fun's over."

A lemur sings about women moving their bodies.

  • Violence Mild

Melman's leg gets stuck in the train, and it falls off cartoonishly.

During a scene where three of the protagonists realize how deadly the wild is, we see a bird eaten by a carnivorous flower (the flower comically burps out it's feathers afterwards), a mouse is dragged offscreen by a snake, escapes only for a eagle to grab him and swoop off, and a duckling is swallowed by a crocodile.

A human skeleton attached to a parachute hangs from a tree; a decrepit plane is nearby.

Julian uses a human skeleton hand to point and make gestures.

Many animal control officers, with their guns drawn and looking scared, surround several animals, and shoot a Alex in the buttock with a tranquilizer dart (Alex is shot on two different occasions).

An old lady beats up Alex by hitting him on the head with her purse repeatedly, and also kicks him in the crotch.

Gloria hits Alex with a large stick and keeps hitting him (she is trying to save Alex from a spider on Alex's back).

A penguin knocks a man out with a strike to the neck, and a penguin hits a man in the face (the man is tied up and his mouth is taped).

Alex is hit in the face with a tree branch, he steps on a thorn, a tree falls on him, and he's caught in a large spider web. He is also hit by a coconut and falls down a waterfall.

Hungry Alex jumps and bites a zebra's backside (they're friends, but the lion is starving and hallucinating about steaks); we see the zebra later with a large Band-Aid on its backside.

  • Profanity Mild

Skipper the penguin says "Hoover Dam" as a substitute for "d**n"

When Alex steps on a thorn, he says "What the frick".

The p on a "help" sign falls apart and spells "hell". That refers to the place.

After Marty receives a rectal thermometer, not realizing its purpose, he puts it in his mouth. After finding out the real purpose, he shouts out a disgusted "MOTHER--!" Played for laughs.

Uses of "Sexy" in "I LIKE TO MOVE IT" song.

At one scene, when Marty runs away from Alex in slow motion, he shouts out: "Sugar Honey Iced Tea!". Take the first four letters of those four words and they spell "s**t". This will go over young children's heads.

  • Drugs None

Alex has psychedelic experiences after getting hit by tranquilizers.

Animals are having cocktails made out of seawater.

  • Frightening Scenes Mild

When the animals see a duckling, they place it in a pond, thinking that it will be safe but an enormous crocodile suddenly emerges from under the water and swallows it in one bite. This may upset younger viewers.

In the crashed airplane there's a skeleton of the pilot. During a meeting, the lemurs use one of it's hands as a pointer, which some people may find unnerving.

A huge argument happens in the movie and there is a montage of the characters going their separate ways in sadness.

    None/Moderate for neurodivergent viewers.

Alex gets very upset/angry with Marty with one scene and says something harsh even though he didn't mean it. This is common in DreamWorks movies.

An irreverent but cute animated comedy movie.

Without his staple of raw zoo meat, Alex starts seeing the others as fresh meat and then doesn't realize what he's doing when he bites Marty's butt. With his instincts in overdrive, he then chases after Marty (with the old National Geographic theme song playing on the soundtrack). This causes Alex to go insane and become depressed.

Various cat-like animals called fossa are after Marty who kicks one back, but the rest jump on him. Melman then does a Tarzan bit and rescues Marty, but they then slam into a rock wall (played for action comedy). The penguins then use a spinning object to send things flying out that hit the menacing animals.
