In Your Dreams (2025)

What earned the score

• Matriarchal Provider Reversal

The mother is portrayed as the responsible and practical breadwinner who pursues a high-paying teaching job to address financial strain, while the father is depicted as an overweight, impractical former musician unwilling to let go of his past glory, making him the cause of the family's marital and economic issues, reversing traditional gender roles with the woman as provider and the man as the failing figure.

• Female Superiority Gag

The narrative juxtaposes the daughter's brightness, goal-orientation, and drive against her younger brother's sloppiness, dumpiness, and perceived dumbness, with a gag implying the boy's lack of intelligence aids in a situation, framing female competence positively against male inadequacy.

• Pedophilic Nightmare Exposure

In a nightmare sequence, the preteen girl Stevie and her younger brother Elliot appear naked in a department store dream; Stevie hides naked in a clothing rack while her crush looks at her, and Elliot struts around naked with pixelated privates as his stuffed animal companion comments in a suggestive voice that there is absolutely nothing wrong with it.
