What earned the score

  • Male Anchor Dismisses Female Protagonist

Margaret’s (Emily Blunt) husband repeatedly dismisses her concerns throughout the film solely because she is a woman who doesn’t believe him, positioning him as an antagonistic male figure whose sexism hampers her agency.

  • Aliens as Counterfeit Divine Saviors: Humanity's Flawed Nature and Mimicked Miracles

The narrative presents extraterrestrials as supreme, god-like saviors—'nearer to God' than humans—who will deliver humanity from itself and establish world peace, displacing hope in divine intervention. Humanity is framed as the true menace: divided, hubristic, and incapable of handling truth without alien guidance. The aliens bestow counterfeit spiritual gifts—speaking unknown tongues, prophetic visions, discernment of secrets, absolute empathy, and conjuring apparitions of the dead—paralleling biblical miracles to position extraterrestrial power as a false imitation of divine authority.
